Superior Vision
A Leader in Managed Vision Care
Four Experiences, One Application.
About Superior Vision
Superior Vision has been a leader in the managed vision care market since 1993. They are a premier national vision plan delivering exceptional eye and vision health solutions through distinctive service and an unparalleled provider network.
Superior Vision has established a large and diverse nationwide network of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians to service routine vision eye care plans. Their provider network development strategy is to offer the employer and their employees a wide selection of providers in order to meet the preference of a diverse workforce.
Portal Application
Superior Vision provides routine PPO vision care plans to employers for the benefit of their employees. Eligibility and benefits could be verified with Superior Vision via their secured online provider portal, fax, or through our Customer Service department.
For Providers, a secure portal was designed to host a wealth of tools to simplify their medical and vision claim submissions. Special attention was paid to each users Personally Identifiable Information (PII) with adherence to HIPA regulations.
Superior Vision was looking to be acquired by MetLife. Their current site needed a new look and feel but most importantly, their site needed to be improved to allow their customers to self-serve or contact customer service quickly.
The Approach
- Gathered and documented user requirements for multiple processes including eligibility verification, authorizations, claims submissions
- Provided views to allow providers to view, create or modify forms based on user permissions
- Worked with users to identify pain points when trying to complete tasks
- Worked directly with the development team to ensure a smooth process when developing the application
- Advocated and presented research on use of solid UX principles and best practices as defined by UXMatters, Human Factors International and Nielsen Norman Group
- Lead discovery, planning, researching, and identifying requirements and defining user types and their associated functions to clarify what users can access what functionality based on their level of permissions
The Results
Once completed, Superior Vision was acquired by MetLife for over one billion while maintaining a user base of millions of members and providers.
The 2013 user interface allows the user to select a workflow path to self-server based on one of the four user types that use Superior Vision services.
The older UI featured iconograpy to lead the user into workflows but didn’t provide any context or lead the user to a specific task. Rather, the UI featured an out of date Flash animation to introduce Superior Vision’s brand, but not assit the user in finding the information they need.
